Anoka-Ramsey Community College Coon Rapids Campus Theatre Department fall production, “Noises Off,” a 1982 play by English playwright Michael Frayn is set to hit the stage in the Coon Rapids Campus Performing Arts Center Nov. 6, 7, 12, 13 and 14 at 7:30 p.m.
The hilarious three-act play is actually a play within a play. It opens less than twenty-four hours before opening night of the play, “Nothing On,” with the cast struggling to complete a full rehearsal. Things only go downhill from there. Through a series of mishaps, the cast is left hopelessly confused in a tangle of boxes, bags, burglars and slamming doors.
“This script is a masterpiece of contemporary farce writing,” says college Theatre Faculty member and the play’s director, Scott Ford. “It moves at three speeds: fast, faster, and comic hyperdrive."
The public is invited to find out if the play is set right and if the cast makes it through the performance at this laugh-out-loud production. Note: this play is not recommended for children 12-years-old and younger.
“Every character in the play has at least one screw loose and this cast of actors is a bunch of goofballs – a potent combination,” Fords adds.
An alumni performance is set for Nov. 7; and an interpreted performance is Nov. 14.
Tickets are $8 and will be available at the Anoka-Ramsey Community College bookstore, 763-433-1250.

Anoka-Ramsey Community College students take a break from constructing the set for the college’s fall production of “Noises Off,” running Nov. 6, 7, 12, 13 and 14, 7:30 p.m., at the Coon Rapids Campus Performing Arts Center.

The completed set for the Anoka-Ramsey Community College fall play, "Noises Off," (shown here) weights more than 3,000 lbs., yet one person can rotate it within sconds, according to the college's Technical Director of Theatre, Peter Lerohl. It took thirty-seven people, many of whom were students, eights weeks to compete the set.
